The Rohtak police have advised the CBSE authorities to implement random allocation of examination centres and install jammers to ensure fair conduct of the All-India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) re-examination.
“The Supreme Court order to cancel the AIPMT-2015 held on May 3 and conduct of a fresh test has safeguarded the interests of meritorious candidates, and the CBSE should also effect the necessary changes in the conduct of examination so as to prevent its vitiation,” said Rohtak range IGP Shrikant Jadhav while addressing a news conference here today.
Jadhav said the examination procedure should be modernised and security agencies should be roped in to prevent the use of unfair means. He lauded the support of the state police authorities in strengthening the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case.
The IGP said the nationwide network of the racketeers unearthed in due course of investigation was shocking even for the investigators. He said though no involvement of any CBSE official in the racket had been detected so far, the possibility could not be ruled out.
Rohtak SP Shashank Anand said they would also provide a list of the AIPMT candidates who had struck deals with miscreants for use of unfair means to pass the examination conducted on May 3.
The SP said the investigations had revealed that six or seven subject experts who had solved the paper were lodged in a resort at Behror in Alwar district of Rajasthan on May 3. They received the question paper around 10.30am, though the source of its leakage was yet to be ascertained.
They solved it and prepared answer keys, which were sent to a number of candidates appearing at different AIPMT examination centres across the country through sophisticated communication gadgets stitched within the candidates’ undergarments.
“While 44 such candidates have been identified, more suspected beneficiaries are being detected with almost every passing day,” the SP said, adding that they were in constant touch with the police authorities of different states and wanted to complete the investigation before the retest.
“Action will also be taken against those companies/vendors who had sold mobile SIM cards on fake IDs in violation of the norms set by the Union Ministries of Home Affairs and Information Technology,” he said.
Pointing out that a penalty of up to Rs 50,000 per SIM card issued on fake ID could be levied, Anand said the Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring Cells at different states would be intimated about the matter.
At least 72 mobile SIM cards bought on fake IDs had been used by the persons involved in the racket. Of these, nearly 40 were sold by a local retailer, who was later found to be associated with the gang.
Anand disclosed that they had got significant leads about Roop Singh Dangi, kingpin of the racket, and were hopeful of his early arrest. “Rest of the details will be revealed once Dangi is arrested,” he added.
