Only 1% passed TET, retest ordered

Primary TET results were published on Friday with only 1.07% candidates making the cut. Of the 17,51,000 candidates, who appeared for the test, only 18,793 qualified.

KOLKATA Since there is a shortfall of around 15766 candidates as seats remained vacant, TET will be held for a second time by March 31, 2014. The fee will be waived for those who will reappear in the exam. The minuscule number of candidates who have qualified in the test shows the poor quality of examinees.Primary board chairman Manik Bhattacharyya, however, said even in CBSE TET exam around .42% could qualify in upper primary while less than 1% qualified for primary. "This is the figure even nationally. Hence, there is no reason to get worried," Bhattacharyya said.

The primary board chairman said two panels will be set up, one for trained and another for untrained examinees. The personal interview session dates will be announced shortly as January 2 is the target for giving joining dates.

Total vacancies in the state is 34,559. Education minister Bratya Basu, however, said, "If we compare the percentage of candidates qualifying in the examination against the available number of vacancies, then more than 50% candidates have qualified in TET."

The minister added, "chief minister Mamata Banerjee was determined to generate employment and our Maa-Mati-Manush government is will create more posts which will be filled up soon. The examination will be held within the current financial year and results too should be published without any delay, to fill the vacancies."

Primary TET examination, held on March 31, 2013, was marred with controversy since several examinees claimed that they were unable to reach the exam centre on time. 20,90,341 candidates filled the form among who 3,38,009 could not sit in the examination.
