MDU cuts 5o% seats in 20 BEd colleges, imposes fine for lapses

Taking a tough stand against private BEd colleges affiliated with the Maharishi Dayanad University (MDU), the executive committee of the university has cut 50% seats of 20 BEd colleges for not fulfilling the norms set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

The university has already cancelled the affiliation of two colleges, namely Kirti College of

Education, Gohana, and Raj College of Education, Brahmanwas, Rohtak.

Also, the university has imposed fine of Rs 2 lakh each on 14 colleges and rs 1 lakh each on the remaining six colleges. Two law colleges also faced similar action of 50% cut in seats and `2 lakh fine each.

Sources in the MDU said the university has asked the owners of the 20 BEd colleges to rectify their lapses, which include poor infrastructure and shortage of staff as per allotted seats by September 30, failing which their affiliation would be cancelled.

The university officials will also make regular visits to these colleges to review the improvement, they added. 

A senior functionary of the university, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The decision was taken on the recommendations of the academic council, which had already put these colleges under no-admission category”.

“They may face strict action if they fail to meet the requirements of the university and NCTE,” he added.
  
LINK ROAD FROM PGIMS  TO ROHTAK BYPASS

Meanwhile, the executive council of the MDU has agreed to provide land for a link road from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) to Rohtak bypass, following demand of local MLA Munish Grover.

The decision will provide hassle-free passage to thousands of students and patients visiting PGIMS from Delhi, Bhiwani, Jind, Jhajjar and Sonepat districts. 

The university will provide land for this 1.5 km road which will connect the PGIMS to outer roads and the bypass.

The sources said that the decision was taken after local BJP MLA raised the issue of increasing traffic on the main road passing thorough the city.
