PATNA: Super 30 founder Anand Kumar has added another feather of international acclaim, with a reputed Spanish newspaper EL MUNDO describing him as a 'silent revolutionary in the field of education in India'.
Anand kumar said that after the publication of the feature in El Mundo, he has been inundated with phone calls and e-mails from people of not only Spain, but other European countries as well to meet him.
"The Spanish TV also wants to make a documentary on Super 30. Some of them have expressed their desire to have a school on the lines of Super 30 in Europe also and want me to visit there," Anand told TOI on Sunday.
"It is a great honour that far away in Spain, the people are interested in Super 30 and the media had done such detailed work on the institute. It will work as another motivation for me to work with more dedication," Anand Kumar, who has been featured extensively in foreign media, including Time, Newsweek, Monocle, Focus, Discovery channel, Japanese and French TV to name a few.
The Spanish newspaper has lauded the incredible success story of Super 30 since 2003 in one of India's poorest states and Anand's unique style of teaching that makes learning fun.
Citing examples of how students from underprivileged sections successfully chased their big dream, it has dwelt at length on Super 30, a free school in the state of Bihar in northern India, where poor thirty students preparing to enter the most prestigious educational institution in the country: the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
"Anand Kumar, a mathematician who is completely devoted to the needy in India, has helped many students from poor families crack one of the toughest tests in the world, something they had never dreamt of earlier," it says, adding this led to a silent social revolution.
It has quoted the real-life story of Super 30 students Dhananjay Kumar to explain what qualifying for IIT means to many like him. "In my village there is no interest in children towards study. My father at first did not believe in my studies. Where I live, all the kids my age are working," the boy, who had to initially study without going to class, has been quoted as saying.
The feature revolves round the small shelter where 30 poor talented children come every year to prepare for JEE under Anand's guidance. "Here they do not pay anything for their yearlong mentoring. They live, eat and study together, with Anand's mother Jayanti Devi taking care of food and his brother Pranav Kumar looking after logistics," says the spanish writer.
