Engineering Diploma Entrance Test discontinued in Haryana

The Haryana government recently announced that the Diploma Entrance Test (DET) for engineering would be discontinued in the state from the academic session 2016-17 onwards.
According to PTI, admissions to diploma (engineering) courses in government and government-aided polytechnic institutions in the state would be made on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination, Haryana Technical Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said in a release on Tuesday.
The minister stressed that the decision was taken to facilitate students and their guardians, and that the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has issued directions to conduct admissions in the 2016-17 session through online system on the pattern of industrial training institutes. The minister said that earlier students had to fill an online form for admission to engineering diploma in polytechnics after passing the class 10 examination.
Admission was given on the basis of a written examination and the entire process was both time consuming and costly, he further added.
Earlier the Haryana DET was conducted every year for admission to various diploma courses ( totaling to more than 37 courses)  in the field of Engineering, Pharmacy and Hotel Management offered by the polytechnics and other institutions across the state. The application form for this was made available only on the official site.
